About This Site

This site is based at the Center for African Studies at the University of California at Berkeley. It was funded by a four year grant (2005-2009) from the Title VI International Research and Studies Program of the US Department of Education.

The project co-coordinators are Michael Kevane, Department of Economics, Santa Clara University, and Martha Saavedra, Center for African Studies, University of California, Berkeley. Mariane Ferme, Department of Anthropology, University of California, Berkeley was the principal investigator for the grant.

The site architecture and programming was developed by the IAS Information Systems and Services. Accessibility and modularity were key principles. Hence, all resources are managed through a content management system to enable flexibility in content organization and extendability.
